The start of the pantomime season sees the Birmingham Rep’s playful and savvy reworking of The Wizard of Oz. Liam Steel has re-created every element throughout.
Staged as an occasionally dizzying whirlwind of movement, the cast members keep swooshing in on wires or skipping cheerfully down a never-ending yellow brick staircase.
This is a production with brilliant choreography, an excellent musical accompaniment provided by musical director George Dyer and the very talented quintet of musicians and some splendid theatrical effects including some very scary super-sized spooks and a very much larger-than-life Wizard.
The Revolving Stage Company provide their 8m to 10 diameter double revolving stage for this production.
